The Healthy Home Guide

A room-by-room plan for lightening the toxin burden your body handles at home.

No cost, no credit card. Just tell me where to send it.

The weather it's all growing in

Think of your body like a garden. There's the soil, right where the follicles are, and there's what feeds it: the protein, iron, zinc, and healthy fats a strand gets built out of. Both of those matter, and both of them get plenty of attention.

Then there's the weather it's all growing in. That's everything your body meets in an ordinary day. The water you shower in. The detergent that stays in your sheets. The cleaner you spray on the counter before dinner. The air in the room where you sleep for eight hours.

Here's the thing about a garden in rough weather: the plant has to make a decision. It pulls its resources down into the roots to protect itself, and the blooms are the first thing it lets go of. Not because the blooms don't matter, but because a plant that's working hard to hold its ground doesn't typically spend its reserves on flowers.

Your body does the same math. Every body burden that comes in has to be processed and sent back out, and that work draws on the same protein, minerals, and energy your body would otherwise put toward growing hair. When the load is light and the nutrients are abundant, there's plenty to go around. When it runs heavy day after day, your body spends where it has to first. Hair tends to be one of the early places it economizes, which is part of why hair is such an early signal that something upstream needs attention.

In my years as a nutritional therapy practitioner, this is the piece that opens things up for so many women who feel like they're already doing everything right. Lightening the toxin burden in our homes is a simple place to start.

Here's what we'll walk through together

The EPA ranks indoor air as one of the top five environmental risks to public health, and indoor air routinely tests

two to five times more polluted than the air outside. The good news is that a lot of what drives that is within your reach.

Module 1

Know what you're working with

We start with the everyday common toxin burdens worth knowing about, where each one tends to show up in a normal house, and what to do about each.

Module 2

The small changes that do most of the work

This is the module where the needle moves.

A cupboard clean-out that shows you how to look up the exact cleaners sitting under your sink, and what to replace them with if needed

How to filter your indoor air and your water, and which houseplants earn their keep

A weekly rhythm that keeps a home healthy without adding an hour to your week

Module 3

Room by room

Then we walk your house one room at a time, so you’re never standing in the middle of your house wondering where to begin.

How to choose safer paint, rugs, and furniture, and what to do about the ones you already own

Room-by-room checklists for your living room, kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom, yours to print and keep

What this asks of you?

→ One change at a time.

There is no perfect home (I don’t have a perfect home, either!). The goal is to change one thing this month, and the course is built to be returned to as a resource you can revisit again and again.

→ Less money than you'd think.

A good part of the strategies we cover cost nothing at all. Where a purchase does make sense, I'll tell you which ones are worth planning for and which ones can wait years.

→ Information you can use.

I'll show you what's in the research and then provide you with an action step that’s doable. The intention isn’t to make you feel fearful of toxins that come into your home, it’s to empower you with simple steps you can take to do something about them.

If you only do one room, start with your bedroom.

It's where you spend the most hours in a row, with your face against the same fabric, breathing the same air, for a third of your life. Small changes in your bedroom arguably count for more than small changes elsewhere in the house. We cover your bedroom specifically in Module Three, Lesson Three, and you're welcome to skip straight to it if you’re tight on time.

This one's for you if

You've cleaned up your food and your products and want to know what's left

You keep seeing the word "toxins" and want a practitioner to tell you what's worth your attention

You rent, or you're on a budget, and most clean-living advice assumes otherwise (most of what we cover works either way)

You want to have a straightforward checklist of what to do

I’m a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, board-certified holistic health coach, and founder of the clean beauty brand, Byrch.

I grew up on a 600-acre goat ranch, planning to become a doctor. As a little girl I'd raid my mother's sewing kit to perform "surgeries" on my dolls, and I took four years of Latin just to get a head start on medical terminology. Then, when I was 16, my big sister handed me a book called 10 Essential Foods, and somewhere in a chapter about figs, everything clicked: food itself could be medicine. I never looked back.

In my years of practice since, I've worked with many hundreds of private clients, and I've seen the same truth again and again: the symptoms we experience — the energy crashes, digestive issues, skin problems, cravings, discomforts — they aren’t just annoyances to be muted with caffeine or painkillers. They’re valuable signals, one of the key ways that our bodies communicate to us. When we tune in and follow the thread between our symptoms, history, and daily habits, we can better understand our body’s unique needs and give it the support it’s been asking for. Symptoms often show up downstream when there’s an imbalance upstream, in one or more of our foundational body systems, which is why I take a foundations-first approach to wellness.

After COVID, I lost nearly half of my hair (hair that had been long and thick my whole life) and I know exactly how scary it is to watch that happen. It's a big part of why I created Byrch: I wanted to support women from the inside out as well as the outside in.

Hi, I'm Jessica.

It lands in your account and stays there. Use the quick, simple swaps today and come back to it when you're replacing a mattress or repainting a room three years from now.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take?

The videos are short, and the whole course fits in an afternoon if you want to watch it straight through. Most people do better with one module a week and the steps in between.

I rent. Is this still useful?

Very. Your cleaners, your air, your water filters, your bedding, your cookware, your fragrance, and your weekly routine all travel with you. Where something is a homeowner project, I'll say so and give you the renter-friendly version.

Do I need to buy anything?

No. The course points you to free tools for looking up your own products, and everything else is a plan you can work through at whatever pace your budget allows.

Is this about hair?

It's about the environment your whole body is working in, which includes your hair, your skin, your sleep, and your energy. It pairs with what you're already doing rather than replacing it.

Why is this free?

Because you came to me through Byrch, and this is an important piece I want you to have.
